Upcoming Training: Supporting Transition-Age Youth in Foster Care

The National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC) will host its Transition Age Youth Online Training Series November 18–20, 2026. This virtual series offers practical guidance for advocates supporting older youth in foster care and young people transitioning into adulthood.
For the NRC-FAHE community, the series provides an opportunity to explore the connections among education, child welfare, legal advocacy, and support during the transition to adulthood. Topics include educational stability, school push-out, recent legal developments, and collaborative approaches for youth involved in both child welfare and juvenile justice.
Program highlights
The changing legal landscape: Join Jenny Pokempner to explore recent federal and state developments affecting older youth, including implications for services, eligibility, permanency, and advocacy.
Challenging school pushout: Learn how school threat appraisals can disproportionately affect students with disabilities and how advocates can challenge discriminatory practices.
Supporting youth involved in two systems: Explore Indiana’s collaborative approach to serving youth involved in both child welfare and juvenile justice.
Making educational stability a reality: Gain strategies to clarify agency responsibilities and demand accountability for the educational needs of youth in foster care.
